Benji - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

The day started just like any other.

Little Benjamin arrived and we were all set for a wonderful morning of snuggling, wrapping and photographing a beautiful baby boy.

He was so relaxed and peaceful as we undressed him and posed him through photos with his mum and dad. He was awake at first then snuggled into his cuddles against their bodies and fell into a restful sleep. I love when this happens, its a sign of just how much a new baby loves being with their mum and dad.

We were nearly finished family photos when suddenly...

Click.. Clunk.. churn.

After photographing hundreds of families and hundreds of adorable babies, my camera couldn't handle the cuteness any more and crashed mid-shoot.

The error code was ERR20 which I looked up, it means "cute overload".

Immediately I got out my backup camera, but as with any reserve team, its not quite as good as the main camera. So the decision was made to postpone the session for a couple of days while I repaired or replaced my camera.

So two days later we had the de-ja-vu situation of meeting at the front door again, setting up the family photo once more and capturing the rest of the session.

This time it went without a hitch, Benjamin was in a lovely relaxed state, so much that he didnt even stop for a feed the whole two hours they were here.

He loved his dummy so much!  Ive not seen a baby that enjoyed it so much so early on, but what a wonderful thing to have a quick soothing option at just ten days new.

We would pose him with his dummy, get everything set, then just as I was about to take the photo, remove the dummy and capture the setup. This sometimes results in cute "kissy-lips" which is adorable.  Sometimes when we removed the dummy he would do this cute little lip quiver as though he was about to cry, then settle again. Gosh I love being around sweet little moments like that!

Since the session had been split in two we were done in no time and they were off to enjoy the rest of the beautiful weekend as a new family.

Family at the Beach - Brisbane Family Photographer

This session was held in Kingscliff NSW which was a new spot for me, Id never been there. Once I parked the car and had a look around I was so excited to start shooting, it was one of the nicest spots and I wish so badly that we had beaches like this closer to North Brisbane!

This was a special event for the family, a big week long get-together of Grandparents, 4 adult children and their young families. I was invited at the end of the week to come capture some memories of the holiday for them, and it could not have turned into a more perfect evening on the beach.

The kids were loving playing in the cool sand, running and doing star jumps, swishing their arms around like birds, racing with their Aunties, Uncles and Grandparents and of course playing with all their cousins.

Im not exaggerating at all when I say that upon loading these images into my computer and backing them up, I was in awe of these beautiful people and their gorgeous children.

Look at those eyes! Look at those cute little toes curled with excitement! Look at that cheeky face! Look at all the love in this large family.

Parent photos are often overlooked at sessions, but I make a point of taking them as people often say "the last time we had a nice photo together was on our wedding day!".  And its true - we get so focused on our children we sometimes forget about capturing our relationship with our spouse, which is why these photos are so important to me to include at a family session.

With the sun setting, the light dimming and the sky changing colour we snapped an awesome photo of everyone walking along the beach together before the kids broke rank and had a running race towards me with all the parents chasing close behind.

With the session all done, Grandma produced a bag of chocolates and I handed out the end-of-shoot bubbles to all the kids and then the party really started....

Hannah 6 months - Brisbane Baby Photographer

I just LOVE seeing babies return for their 6 month session, its so amazing to see how much they have grown and how their little personalities are forming.

Hannah was a total delight to photograph, she wasn't quite sitting on her own but we managed to capture some photos of her with mum right beside catching any falls.

She was full of smiles and funny faces, she like playing with her toes, pulling at her nappy tabs to make the scratching sound and had a cute habit of chewing on her lips which made her look all pursed up like she was sending kisses.

Her dad wasn't too sure when I suggested holding her in his arms nappy-free again, (he may or may not have had an incident at their newborn session that he is still recovering from) but Hannah was a superstar this time around and her dad stayed dry and clean throughout the session while we captured some really nice photos of her sitting in his arms.

I love to do a photo sequence using the same props through the year to show how babies grow and so we did a similar setup of a basket shot that we did with Hannah at her newborn shoot. Then it was time for a splash of pink to mix it up a little.

No six month shoot is complete with out the "baby in a basket" photo, and I can't put my finger on why, but but it is always one of my favourites from the sitter sessions. Maybe its seeing how small they are in the basket, or how they like to play hide and seek behind the rim of the basket. The babies are always interested in it and Hannah was no exception enjoying chewing on the leather handles and investigating her crossed legs within the basket.

I went to hunt out a little floral romper for her from my prop-storage room but instead came back with a floral headband that we decided to use instead. Things were already hitting top notch on the cute-o-meter, but this just blew the top off.  Cute flowers, big eyes, a little smile and then she started coo-ing for the first time at the session and I actually, honestly-truly-not-even-exaggerating felt my heart melt a little inside my chest.

I really do love children and babies and especially love my job on days like this where I get to not only capture beautiful memories for a beautiful family but get that amazing heart-burst feeling of love as well.

Savannah - Brisbane Family Photographer

This session was a long time in the making - I first met this family back when Savannah was still growing in her mums tummy. I loved this maternity session and I had hoped to meet the little one after she was born.

Well, as happens, life moves so quickly and it was 18 months before I heard from this family again, but gosh what a treat to meet little Savannah - she was full of personality!

She waved at me as soon as they got out of the car, then went a bit shy when we got closer to say hello, then was happy for a little cuddle with me and we got on well after that.

I first met this family back when Savannah was growing in her mums tummy. It was one of my favourite maternity shoots that year and I loved the images so much that one of them was on my marketing materials for quite some time.

So it was super exciting for me to see them all again and to meet Savannah 18 months later.

We always start with family photos when little ones are a bit unsure. It helps them to be relaxed when there is some lady bouncing around making noises to look at her with a big black camera in front of her face.

She got used to the camera very quickly though once she saw her photos on the back of the screen, she was very excited and was clapping her hands and pointing to herself, her mum and her dad with a big smile on her face.

It wasn't long before Savannah had totally relaxed and  was loving all the attention. We captured some beautiful images of the whole family together as well as some special moments with each of her parents.

We moved spots to a grassy background with tiny blue flowers in it and although Savannah wasn't keen on laying on her tummy we were able to capture a few fleeting moments of her before she jumped up and ran back to mum or dad for another cuddle.

By the time the sun had dropped low we had the bubbles out to bring on the last few smiles of the day. She was contently smiling and pointing with two crossed fingers at the bubbles as they floated by, saying "bubbas!!" and then another family strolled past with a pram and she pointed with her two crossed fingers and said "bubba!" and I thought she was very clever to make one word work twice for her like that!

It really was a most gorgeous afternoon at the park together and I know these photos will be something Savannah holds on to for the rest of her life as a keepsake of such a special time with her parents.

Patrick and Eve Turn 1 - Brisbane Family Photographer

It is such a treat for me to photograph a family as they grow and seeing Patrick, Eve and their family today was a bitter sweet session.

It didnt all that long ago that they were this small:

I was astounded at how much the twins have changed  again since their six month session!

The skies were so dark I had massive concerns it would pour with rain any moment so we launched right in to some photos as soon as we got there. Older brother Thomas had a great time running up and down the boardwalk, then we popped Patrick and Eve in beside him for a sibling photo.

It was never going to be easy photographing two one year olds who are both very curious, strong willed and on the move! However we got some truly beautiful family and sibling photos, it is amazing connecting with young children like this.

One of my favourite family photos to capture at the session is as simple as walking towards and away from me. It always seems to be something that brings out the most happiness in the kids, they just love holding hands with their parents and squealing with joy if they get a swing while they are there!

We moved into the bush a little further and captured some beautiful photos with the rustic Australian bush as the backdrop. The twins had a great time getting loads of cuddles from mum and dad and then we stood them behind a tree and played peek-a-boo until they giggled so much they collapsed on the ground.

The rain never eventuated thank goodness (you never can be sure!) but by the time we were heading back to the car, Patrick and Eve were both ready for dinner and bed and Thomas was looking very closely at my camera bag wondering if there were the usual treats in there still. Of course there were, so loaded up with stickers, bubbles and a little lolly they headed home to enjoy the rest of the evening together.

Leah, 8 weeks new - Brisbane Baby Photographer

The very first thing I said when I met 8 week new Leah was "Gosh she is small!"

And she really is, weighing less than some of the newborns I meet.

Its because she arrived 7 weeks early, which must have been quite the surprise for her very doting parents.

It was so cute, her dad bought the session to surprise her mum! They were such a lovely couple, you could tell how in love they are by how they naturally leaned into each other for the family photo, even sneaking in kisses when I was checking things back on my camera.

Little Leah was so full of personality, she was very interested in what I was doing with her and kept herself awake almost the whole time she was here, drifting off at the ned of the session for a very short nap which was just long enough for me to photograph her peacefully in her last setup of the day.

We did an earthy toned setup with the vine basket but mostly kept the colours to neutrals and creams which are always so soft and gentle with baby skin, and very much my style!

After spending all her session awake and keeping her eye on me, she was literally in her car seat for under a minute before she dropped off again into a very relaxed sleep (with no body fussing her) and I have no doubt she would have slept the whole car ride home.

How cute are all these little smiles though? Sometimes its a good thing when they dont sleep.
