Little Sophie is the newest member of this gorgeous family and her brothers and sister were just so excited to cuddle her for their photos.
She was the most placid little poppet, surrounded by all the noise you expect with children, she slept peacefully, only getting restless when the older children left the room and it got too quiet!
I always love capturing older siblings at a session as well as the newborns. It can be a bit of a change for them when a new baby joins the family so I find having some special time just about them is really nice.
As newborn sessions generally run 3-4 hours long, I try to do the older siblings photos done as soon as I can so that they can head off and play with the toys and books available. I find this makes for a more pleasant session for everyone!

Have you ever considered getting together for a group photo shoot?
You should!
If you are anything like my own mothers group, you guys know each other pretty well. We share every painful bed time, every milestone and every proud mum moment with each other. From introducing solids to our babies first steps, we were there for each other. Concerned which TOG level sleeping bag our babies should be in or when could we sit them in a trolley? First thing we did was to ask each other.
Mothers groups have an amazing bond and what better way to celebrate that bond than to share in a group birthday party and photoshoot?
The best part is that by grouping together, they were able to capture these gorgeous photos and split the session cost, making it really affordable for everyone!
Not only did we capture some gorgeous first birthday portraits of these crazy adorable kids here:
But these guys also decided to do a big cake smash!
Oh. Em. Gee.
6 babies, matching tutus, 3 cakes.
The set was ready, the cakes were waiting.
Every parent had a baby, then we counted down
3.....
2.....
1.....
CHAOS!!!
The cute play was everywhere! Cake was getting smushed, icing eaten, big smiles on all the faces!
Until......
Turns out cake on the ground is not acceptable.
(Just as an aside, try explaining to a 1 year old how cake on the ground is actually not that bad compared to sandpit sand, which we all know they eat the second you're not looking.)
After the tears were settled and once everyone had finished with the cake, we moved on to clean-up - and it was just as fun! I mean, who can pass up a warm soapy bath on a sunny morning at the park?
If you havent had enough of this session yet, here is a video behind the scenes of how it all went down - including that pivotal moment when the yellow cake tumbled!
This has to be one of the biggest, messiest and most fun shoots I have ever done! It was such a joy to document the first birthday of not just one, but 6 little people. So if you have a mothers group and love this idea, get in touch! It doesnt have to be a cake smash, we can do party coverage and some portraits and it would be just as great. Id love to do it all over again!
Marcus was so excited to meet his new family that he arrived 6 weeks early. So when we photographed him at 5 and a half weeks, he was still supposed to be in his mum's tummy! It is a very special thing to hold a baby that shouldn't be breathing air yet, and Marcus is a very special, sweet little boy.
His big sister is amazing, she loves him so much and was so excited when it was time for her to have her cuddles with him in front of my camera.
A beautiful family inside and out, I was so honoured to capture this time for them.

That hair! That smile! Be still my beating heart. It is so cool to meet a baby with a strong personality so young and little Angus certainly has plenty of that already!
I just love their family photos too, Angus even snuck a smile in with his Mum which makes for the cutest photo of them!
The wooden nest is by Island Vine Designs and one of my most requested setups. They hand craft each one to order, so no two are alike, just like the little people we snuggle in to them.
Remember if you are interested in booking your newborn photography session that it is best to get in touch during the second trimester. I only take on 2 newborn sessions per week so to ensure you get your preferred date it is always a good idea to pencil something in as soon as you know I am the photographer for your family!

I recently stepped out of my comfort zone of black and white family photos and started offering colour photos against light backdrops. I am loving this new look!
I have always done black and white photos for family as they help put the focus on the little newborn in the middle, but I do love colour photos too so you can now choose which option you would like for your session. Just let me know ahead of your booking so I can be ready to greet you with the correct drop up as we always start with family photos.
Miss 2years wasn't sure about things at the start of this session but she found all her smiles when she got to cuddle her new baby brother!
Aren't those cheeks just adorable? One of my favourite things about photographing new babies is getting in some sneaky snuggles during the session!

Ok so I have a confession. I have been a bit slack with my blogging and so it caught me by great surprise when this cute face turned up again just recently for his first birthday photos! As usual, we always include a family photo and sibling photos because if one little munchkin is cute, then two are adorable!
Plus, I am always buying new props and backdrops so we can continue to capture new styles of photos at each of the sessions.
I first photographed this little guy as at 2 weeks new and gosh he had some great hair even back then! It is so wonderful watching how these little ones grow and turn into little people with their awesome personalities and amazing smiles - and to see how their older siblings grow too. When this big sister first came for photos, she was shy of the camera and me, but by this third time she had a ball being fussed over and doted on.
The best part about photographing families over a year is that we can create a set of milestone images to help show how much babies grow, like this one with his favourite fox toy.
