Baby Landon - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

I was so excited to have this family back in the studio!

Two years ago I photographed Honor's newborn session and it is still one of my favourite ever newborn sessions with so many sweet images.

So when she came back with her new little brother I could not wait to meet and photograph them together!

Honor had other ideas.

This kid is hilarious by the way. She has such a personality, she knows what she wants and happily goes about having it. She quickly introduced me to "Baby Landy" as they arrived then, carrying her favourite toys from In The Nightgarden, she just went right on through the studio to find the toys in the presentation room, a backwards wave of her hand to dismiss me, not even looking back.

My attention turned to the baby carrier and wow - Baby Landy is adorable!

Lucky that, since he was not planning to sleep much while here, which makes posing and photographing a little more tricky for me as a photographer. However he came out with the sweetest smiles and such strong eye contact it was an incredible session all the same.

Since we started with some photos of Honor by herself I thought maybe we could do the sibling photo up first while she was in the mood for photos.

"Hey Honor! Why don't you have a cuddle with Baby Landon?"

"No no no."

Dad had brought his Sea Hawkes beanie that we had photographed at Honor's newborn session and it barely fit over Landons head! He's only 2 and a half weeks old but he has already grown so much. His mum said it had been loose when he was just born!

"Hey Honor! Why don't you have a cuddle with Baby Landon?"

"No no no."

Finally Landon fell asleep and we got some sleeping on the beanbag photos in the tiny window that he gave us, however as soon as we moved him to the second pose he was not having it so it was time to try the final setup before calling it a day.

"Hey Honor! Why don't you have a cuddle with Baby Landon?"

"No no no."

Landon re-settled into the final setup and even dozed back into a light sleep so I photographed him in the set. It was one of my favourite images from Honor's newborn session so I was so glad to have them both peacefully sleeping in the same set.  It was now time to end the shoot and we still didnt have that elusive sibling photo.

"Hey Honor! Why don't you have a cuddle with Baby Landon?"

"No no no."

She was happily playing with the Peppa Pig toys and so we asked if she would like to take them over to show Landon.

We all collectively held our breath...

She did! She had an armful of Peppa Pig figurines, another character in her hand, but she went to her brother and had a quiet talk with him about them.  It was glorious. It was sweet and it was real.  And it was a sibling photo with a great story to tell for years to come.

Baby Thomas - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

I must admit, I had some pre-concieved ideas about how this shoot was going to go.

After speaking with little Thomas' mum earlier in the week and discussing how older brother Oliver was not doing too well since his little brothers arrival, I had prepared myself for tantrums and meltdowns, crying, coercing, begging and bribing.  And all that preparation was in actuality, not necessary at all.

Oliver was quite sure when he arrived that he did not want his photo taken. Ok, I said, no problem. We will just do some photos with everyone else.

This tact usually works when the little ones realise they are being left out.

Oliver did not mind. He was quite happy playing with the toys and was not having any part of the shoot.

So I pulled out the big guns. I called in Nemo.

Nemo is the Pez dispenser that sits on top of my camera and dispenses little lollies when he gets "very best smiles". And he works so well. Just the sight of Nemo was enough to excite Oliver, Dad picked him up and the very first click was the perfect family photo. The FIRST CLICK!!! Three extras for safety and that was the quickest toddler include family photo I have ever captured - and we thought he wouldn't have a bar of it!

Lolly dispensed we sent him off for a play while we did a few more photos with Dad, and soon enough it was time for the dreaded sibling photo.

But once more, Oliver was very excited at the idea of a Nemo lolly and he laid down perfectly for a photo on his own, he held his little brother in a perfect cuddle, smiled to camera and even gave little Thomas a kiss on the head. And that was one of the quickest sibling photos I have ever captured - especially with a tao older who did not want any photos taken!

Man I love Nemo.

His Nanny had come all the way from Scotland to meet little Thomas and had joined us at the session so Oliver and Nanny had a wonderful morning playing with the toys and watching Pirate movies in the presentation room while we finished the session. Im sure they both enjoyed the quiet time together.

In studio we were racing through all the photos as Thomas was such a sound sleeper. We did a beautiful photo of him on the same heirloom blanket that we had used 3 years ago in Oliver's session.

It only became a little unstuck when on the beanbag he was not a fan of bringing his elbows forward for the close up of his face, and we had to let that image go, but every other photo we tried for he was the perfect model.

With everything wound up in time for lunch I congratulated Oliver again on being such a rockstar and he was so happy. Mum confided she had been concerned about how everything was going to play out at the session and in the end it was one of the most calm, peaceful and enjoyable mornings they have had since little Thomas was born. Everyone enjoyed their time, especially 3 year old Oliver!

Baby Henry - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Ive met enough young boys to know what to expect from them, especially brothers! Lots of energy, laughter, curiosity, exploration and always cheekiness.

And this family now have three of them!

So as the car pulled in for this shoot I had expected the car doors to burst open and erupt with two energetic young boys racing out into the garden, but instead I was softly greeted by two sweet little faces, saying their polite hellos and patiently waiting as their parents got their newborn baby brother out of his carseat.

I immediately reset my idea of how this session was going to go, and wow were these boys great!

Their Grandma had also come for the session which was great because it meant that Mum and Dad could completely enjoy the experience with new little Henry and the boys had a great time playing with all the toys with their Grandma.

Little Henry had arrived 4 weeks early but was doing very well to be home from hospital within a week and here for his photos at just 8 days old.

Their family photos were done in record time - especially considering there were two kids under 4 included!

Next we wrapped little Henry up and snuggled him onto a handmade blanket that the other nanna had crocheted just for him. Its seriously so beautiful, just take a look at the delicate lace detailing on there. Divine.

We pulled the boys back in to have a quiet chat to little Henry and they had a lovely time whispering "trucks" and "diggers" to him. You can see these boys are going to be best friends by choice, bound by love and not just blood.

They snuggled down for a cuddling photo too and biggest brother Sam took on his responsiblitily of "Eldest Brother" very well, stretching his arm right behind both of his little brothers, while middle brother Jack had a sweet little snuggle just around new Henry. Oh this photo is for sure one of my all time favourites.

The boys were free to head off with Grandma for some morning tea and more playing while we finished off Henry's photos which included the blue circular patterned mandala and a gorgeous neutral setup on the beanbag.

Henry wasn't too sure about settling right down for us. He didnt cry and he wasn't really awake, he was just aware of everything.  After the session had ended, he still hadnt dropped off for a solid sleep so as I waved everyone off I hoped very much that they would all enjoy a well deserved afternoon nap!

Mabel - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

As Mabel was being un-buckled from the car her big sister Eleanor burst into the studio full of questions and smiles. Its been a while since I last saw Eleanor and it was such a delight to see her now as a gorgeous bubbly toddler.

Since Mabel was hungry after they arrived, we started with photos of Eleanor on her own - and she loved being the centre of attention! She has the sweetest smile, starting off a little shy then bursting out into the most generous and joyous ear-to-ear grin that even reached her eyes.

After these, and while Mabel was still feedings, we started setting up some of the sets for the rest of the session. I love doing this with the family once they are here so that we can create setups that are exactly the style that your family will love.

As soon as Eleanor saw the vine nest from David Lam Designs she got so excited! She wanted a photo with the nest as well! So we did her a special photo in the nest before Mabel had her turn.

With Mabel fully settled we moved on to photos with her Mum. We had done a maternity session a few weeks beforehand and so the first image we did was the "Before/After" photo combining an image from her maternity session and newborn session together to create one special  timelapse image.

Next we pulled Dad in, then Eleanor again and before long we had finished all family photos with Mabel sleeping almost the whole way through.

The sibling photos with Eleanor were so gorgeous! She took a little bribing (to be fair she was getting tired by this stage) but with a little help from my Nemo pez dispenser that clips to my camera, she laid down on the fluffy blanket and enjoyed her snuggles with her beautiful little sister, even kissing her and whispering to her.

It was time to get Mabel naked now and as her Mum was changing her I nipped out to grab my water bottle. Next moment there was a shreik from the studio and both Dad and I ran in.

"Whats happened?" Says Dad.

"This is what happened!" Says Mum.

Poor Mum was sat with sweet little Mabel in front of her,  a generous sized poo squirted right across the gap between them to cover Mums thighs!

It was such a mess we all took a moment to work out where to start with the cleanup! Eleanor comes in with a dress up outfit she wanted help with and we were all a bit "Uhhhh.... Just a sec... "

Slowly we got everything all clean and sorted again and it wasn't long before we were ready to finish the session.

Since Eleanor was all done, her Dad took her to daycare while we moved on to the rest of the session.

Pink blanket photos were up now and Mabel looked so sweet snuggled on the soft mohair blanket, almost the same colour as her deliciously chubby cheeks.

She was not a fan of bringing her elbows forward for the head on wrists photo but she did love laying on her side and her tummy.

With the sleepy photos all wound up it was home time and as they were packing things up Dad said "Hey, we have time to head to the city now to look at some cars!" to which Mum replied "Yes, after we swing by home for a change of clothes!"
