Triple Treat - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

I was beyond excited to hear from this very special family after they had welcomed their new babies - my first ever triplet session!

As is often the case with multiple bookings it was short notice as they had just come home from the hospital and were slowly setting into the new routines at home after around 8 weeks in care.

So when Mackenzie, Alexis and Rhys arrived with their big brother Clayton, mum and Nanny in tow they were about the size of your average newborn.

It was a huge credit to their mum that despite the big change that these gorgeous little ones had brought to their family, it was a peaceful and calm shoot.  The triplets were all very settled, even when they were awake it was quiet in the studio.

As their Dad had to work on the day of the shoot we started with a photo with their amazing Mum, then brought in big brother Clayton for a photo of everyone together. He was so sweet, snuggling in to his new siblings and whispering to his Mum.

As a back-up photo of the triplets together I had decided to start with some images that I could sew together in photoshop to create a sibling image of them all together. Using the same basket and styling in complimentary earthy coloured wraps I photographed each of the babies individually to start with. Alexis was quite awake and watching everything that was going on, Rhys a little more settled, not quite asleep, a strong fighter for awake time, and finally Mackenzie who was sleeping so peacefully she was so very happy.

We asked Clayton if he would like to try and snuggle all three of his new siblings at one time and he was quite excited about the idea, so I got him to stretch his arms as wide as he could and one by one we placed the babies into his cuddle. He was so serious at this point, all focus on keeping the babies calm and happy. Little Rhys unsettled at one moment and he immediately swung his head from the girls over to kiss Rhys on the head and it calmed Rhys right away. My heart nearly burst in that one adorable moment.

As Rhys was starting to get hungry we pulled him out of the photo and Clayton had some cuddles with just his sisters.

Next we set up the beanbag for our first image of the triplets all together. We started with Rhys in the middle as he had just resettled, although still awake. We brought in the girls and as they were still in their wraps they snuggled in to each other and calmed each other in the way that only babies who have shared a womb can.

Since the cuteness was already off the charts we then helped the girls to hold hands across their brother and all 3 of us adults in the room had little gasps at how beautiful they looked laying there, breathing and snuggling each other like that.

Things unfortunately went a little downhill after that. Maybe because the triplets were a little more awake and aware of everything, maybe because it was getting to the end of the session and they were finished with all the fussing, but despite our very best efforts to capture another image of them all together they made it clear they were ready to go home.

And because I always let the babies lead the session, and we really had tried our hardest to capture this last image, eventually we had to call it a day.

These 3 little people are just so sweet beyond words. Their bond with each other and their family is already so evident by how quickly everyone in the room responded to the micro-movements, their Mum and Nanna were so incredible to watch.

I certainly hope I get to see how these little ones grow over the coming months and years!

Isabella - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Isabella stole my heart from the moment she arrived at the studio, bundled up on mums shoulder, all squishy 9 lbs of her!

Isabella's Mum told me that as she was delivered the doctor said "Well, I dont think this ones a newborn - here is your kindergartener!" as a joke because she was such a big baby - in the best possible way!

I couldn't get enough of her chubby cheeks and pouty lips and I was in photographer heaven the whole shoot!

Big brother Alexander was such a cutie too, although not too sure about snuggling in with his sister for laying down photo he was more than happy to plant sweet little kisses on her head and whisper secrets to her while she slept peacefully on the beanbag.

As she was settling into sleep he would do the quick little "hih hih" sounds with the shivery bottom lip that children sometimes do when they have been super upset - not that she was upset, it was just a cute little thing she did every time she dropped back off to sleep.

As her mum loved the flowery setups I do, we created a new green and white one for Isabella and I love it so much!   Its so much fun to create personalised setups with families on the day of their shoot, and I know that with family input like that we will be creating images that the family love.

Just when I thought I couldn't get more in love with her, we moved to the beanbag photos and the squishy level multiplied! I literally did little squeals as her rolls and chubs were all accentuated by the curly snugly poses. Gah its almost to much for me still!

She absolutely rocked her session and I love every single image so much, I think I may be her biggest fan.. after her mum, dad and big brother of course.

Shaw Family - Brisbane Family PHotographer

I like things to be perfect. Perfect weather for example.

Driving to this family session, the skies were dark on one side of the car and light on the other.

My heart rate speeds up.  Worry starts to niggle.

Ten minutes from the beach location it started raining on my car.  I start giving myself a pep talk "This is a good thing. We aren't at the beach yet. Maybe its not raining at the beach. If a shower is going to fall at least it is falling now and not during your shoot".

I get so worked up over these little things!

As it turned out (and as it usually does) I shouldn't have been worried at all.

The weather was ah-may-zing for this family session!

The stormy clouds made for such a gorgeous backdrop, diffusing the afternoon light in the most beautiful way.  The could even broke apart every so often, letting stunning rays of light through, adding golden streams to an already idyllic, wind free afternoon.

Tabitha and her partner Julie were first to arrive with their gorgeous daughter Neveah - and oh my gosh this 4 year old has the best eye lashes, I seriously did a double take!
The rest of the family weren't far behind and we set off right away to get the session underway.

Sister Kala had just arrived that morning from New Zealand so everyone nominated her to go first.

As every family does, there was a lot of ribbing during the session laughing at each others expense and making those "sweet intimate moment" photos about as awkward as possible for each other.

The sky was just getting better and better as time wore on so after everyone had their first round of photos done, we headed down to a sandy spot where the out-going tide and completely wind-free evening were all coming together to provide a truly epic feel for these photos.

I love the connection of grandparents and their little ones, so we sent Sharon and Greg off with little Neveah to look for shells in the sand. It turns out that this is one of Sharons favourite ever things to do and they were so intently looking that we had to hurry them all up to get to the right spot for the photo!

I like to include as much variety as possible in my outdoor sessions so after the sun had completely dropped behind the horizon we quickly nipped into the gorgeous grassy area beside the beach for one last set of photos. Neveah loved swinging in her mums arms and everyone had another great time ribbing Sharon and Greg as they snuggled in for a kiss photo.

With the daylight gone we packed up back into the cars and headed off, and I couldn't help but notice two more photographers at the beach that afternoon photographing the amazing sky at that location - and this lucky family had just had their photos with it! Talk about jagging an amazing setting!

Noah Sitter Session - Brisbane Baby Photographer

The last time I saw Noah, he looked like this:

So I couldn't believe how much he had grown in just six short months!!

His cute cheeks were still the same, his hair just as soft and dark, but thats about where the similarities ended!

An active little man he loved crawling and standing, holding on to chairs and his parents legs.

He loved pulling at the fluff on the flokati blanket and chewing on anything that came into his grasp.

His Mum had a fail-proof way to make him smile and giggle - she would pretend to sneeze!  Every single time she would do a present "Aaaahhhh-choo!" he would giggle at her, it was the best sound in the world and so cool to hear it all morning long.

I always photograph sitting babies with clothing on as they fit their clothes well by this age, but I do still like to do one or two photos naked on a soft blanket. I dont share these photos for privacy reasons but they are so cute, their little bottoms out of focus behind a big smiley face, often a few teeth just beginning to poke through.

Sometimes the children aren't too sure of the texture of the flokati blanket and on this day, Noah was not a fan and as soon as he was laid on it he voiced his displeasure. Mum picked him up right away and he was perfectly happy once more. We even took some photos of him giggling and snuggling into his mum as she settled him and they are divine!!

Since mum had some single photos we did some with dad too, of course dad photos are always active, throwing Noah in the air made for the best excited squeals we heard all day!  The superman hold was next and Noah loved that one just as much!

Since we have photographed Noah at his newborn session we decided to do some images to show how much he has grown and replicated two images from that session, the sleeping on the wreath image and one of how he fits in Dads hands now.

In my new studio space I now have a wonderful spacious garden to photograph in and on this day we decided to finish the session with a couple of outdoor photos as well.

I can't wait to see how much more Noah has when he returns for his first birthday session in another six months time!

Baby Zoe - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Baby Zoe arrived fast asleep on her Dads chest, her mum and big sister Riley just behind. Riley quickly found all the toys to play with while we talked through the print products and paperwork before getting underway.

Zoe had surprised her parents arriving just over 3 weeks early. She was also a little jaundice so as I was starting the session I was mentally rubbing my hands together that I was about to enjoy a session with a very sleepy baby, meaning it will be short and every photo perfectly posed.

Boy was I wrong.

Zoe settled onto her mum very quickly and it wasnt long before we had the first set of photos in the bag. Then she started the wriggling.  Wriggly babies are tricky to pose and photograph, so Mum gave her a little top up feed while I took some of the most adorable photos you ever saw of big sister Riley in a pretty pink dress.

Riley quickly noticed the little pink pram in the corner of the studio and before I realised what was going on she had pulled out all the blankets and stuffers I had prepared for a special photo of Zoe later in the session.  I should have known that the cute little pram would be a magnet for a lovely little girl to play with!

Riley had also found a little pink picnic basket in the toy box and she wanted to have it in the photos with her.  So we got her to put it just behind her back, just out of the camera view, and she was happy to sit and smile and giggle with her Dad.

With Zoe all fed again we laid the girls down on a soft brown blanket for their first sibling photo, but while Riley liked snuggling her little sister for a short time, she was never too sure about it and was quick to let us know she was done with that cuddle after only a minute or so.

Luckily that pretty pink pram was still in play so we gently placed sleeping Zoe in the pram and with some very close parental supervision, Riley came and held the handles, then moved in for a sweet sister kiss.

I think I may have actually squeaked from the cuteness at this point.

Riley was all done so she headed out to play with the pink picnic basket as much as she liked while we finished off Zoe's session.

We had planned a floral hanging basket photo but Zoe was not settling into the deep sleep required for these more complex prop photos, so it wasn't safe to do the hanging basket photo. Instead we laid the wreath down and photographed the same setup on the ground. Zoe wriggled a lot, but I managed some sweet photos of her all the same.

Since she was a little wriggly I decided to wrap her up and lay her on the beanbag to see if she would drop off. Before I had her arms wrapped in tight she had stretched them up behind her head and was sleeping in a classic "Totally Relaxed" pose that was incredibly cute.

With a couple of beanbag setups photographed next, taking a little longer than usual as she was so wriggly, keeping a half eye on me at all times, we were finally done.

Zoe reminded me that no matter how long I have been doing my job, how much experience I have and how far the odds are stacked in one direction, you can never count your chickens before they hatch.

She now holds a record in my studio: 12 days new, 3 weeks early,  jaundice but very wriggly.

And yet still adorable beyond words.
