Willow 6m - Brisbane Baby Photographer

As we met in the carpark, 6 month old Willow emerged with that squint you have when you just wake up and haven't caught up with where you are yet. A little confused and a little pipped at being woken from a nice dozy sleep.

She snuggled into her Dad while we said our hellos again - for this was the third time I had the pleasure of photographing her. Firstly as a bump at her parents maternity session and then as a 6 day old newborn - and she was a beautiful little newborn, you may recognise her from one of my sample products!

So for her six month session we met at a new park location I have been photographing at recently in Bunya. Morning sessions are held as early as politely possible, so when we arrived at 8am there were not too many people around but by the time we left it was so busy.

We started off down a little pathway from the carpark and within a few meters it was already a perfect spot for the first set of photos. Willows grandparents had joined us as well which is always a lovely session to look back on. Group photos ticked off then we played "Pass the Baby" so everyone could have their own photo with her. It was all going perfectly until Pa lifted her up into the air (something she usually loves) and she got a bit of a fright.

Snuggled and resettled we continued with some photos of her on her own. Shes just starting to sit by herself so her mum stayed close by to help keep her stable for those photos - which was lucky as she did have a tip at one point but her mum caught her before her head got to the ground.

Willow is also starting to stand up now too so she took a hand from Nan and one from Pa and the grin on her face tells you everything you need to know about how much she loves her new skills!

A change of scenery to a different area of the park and we had the second round of everyones photos as well as a 3 generation one of Nan, Mum and Willow, a photo I personally love to capture when possible.

With her smiles running out and tiredness creeping in again we finished the session up and Willow snuggled back into her mums arms for a rest before the car ride home.

Luca - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

There seems to be something in the air at the moment - not only have we moved house (and I now work from my awesome new studio - check it out here)  but all my clients so far for 2017 have moved house within weeks of their newborn sessions too!

So along with adjusting to a new baby brother, 2 year old Thomas also has a new home too!

He was such a cutie! When we wanted a big smile his mum would say "Show us your teeth" and he would do a big smile and move his teeth like he was chomping on something.

When it was time for a photo of the boys together we had to resort to bribery with sultanas, but it was worth it to capture such a sweet photo of the boys together.

Then I asked Thomas to give Luca a kiss on his hair and he was so excited he rolled over and nearly squashed his new little brother! It was all ok though, I always have both parents in arms reach for this photo as toddlers can be very quick when they want to be!

With all Thomas's photos done he went off for a play and some snacks while we finished up Luca's photos.

He was such a lovely sleepy baby, not too sure about curling up too much though so for most of the photos he was a little stretched out. But lets cut him some slack since he's been pretty cramped up the past few months it only makes sense he is ready to stretch now.

I did manage a beautiful curly photo towards the end of the session with the grey wrap snuggled all around him, this has to be one of my personal favourites from this session and from all sessions. I honestly love it, because not only is it really cute and all about baby but its about the only time in our lives that this pose is even possible. After as few as 3 weeks babies don't curl up like this any more and then thats it forever.

Thats one of the reasons booking a newborn session within the first couple of weeks is so important - you are more likely to get these sort of sleepy, curly photos that newborn sessions are renowned for.

So with the session all wrapped up it was time for the boys to head back to their new home for a much needed family siesta!

Meder Family Sandgate in Summer - Brisbane Family Photographer

It was a hot, blustery afternoon in the middle of a hot blustery week in February when we arrived for this family session.

It was somewhat of a milestone session as 12 year old Ella is about to embark on a journey with her orthodontist just days after our session, so this was the last chance to capture her beautiful smile as it is now.

So when I asked the kids who likes photos best and who wanted to go first in front of the camera, they all pointed right to Ella who obligingly stepped forward. With the wind blowing her beautiful blonde hair about her face, perched on the cool grey rocks that matched her stunning blue eyes, we had the session under way.

The boys followed next with some wicked blue steels. Boys love not smiling, this is not news to you I'm sure, so it took a little work to get the smile to their eyes but when you get that moment of honest, genuine happiness, wow is it magic!

With the sun dropping we snuck into the sand dunes for some glowy, sun-soaked portraits. I absolutely love the light at this time of day, its so delicious and warm and it makes your skin glow in a way that everything just looks perfect.

With some park setting photos done and the sun just dipped below the horizon we finished the session back out on the water channels with some more family photos. By this time 15 year old Kyle had a bit of mischief in him and with a few skim-kicks in the water aimed at his big brother Sam, suddenly it was on!

The boys were sprinting all over the beach, parents watching to see if Sam would catch his younger brother, and if so how it would end? Would Kyle continue to outrun his big brother? Would Sam eventually catch him? Would Sam tackle Kyle into the water?

Well, I'll tell you how it ended. Kyle pulled into the iconic safety zone of Hiding Behind his Mum and of course, Sam had to let it go. It just goes to show that no matter your age, the Mum safe-zone will always apply! Got to love that!

Rocco - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Photographing new babies is always an exciting day. Being there to meet, welcome and document a new little life is one of the most honourable jobs I get to do.

But this was a particularly exciting day for me.

This was my first session in my new studio space!

Of course I had done some test shoots with my own little models. Actually, the older one was having none of it but the little one was more than willing, even asking "can I do this one mum?" with a chin to shoulder, eyes to camera in a cheeky look. She even sat there for around 10 minutes waiting for me to return from a phone call I got mid session - I honestly couldnt believe she was still there when I came back.

Anyway, flash forward as I welcomed the first family to the new space, and holy cuteness did I hit the jackpot here - these guys are adorable!!

Litte Astyn was right out of the gate and straight into making cups of tea for everyone in the little kitchen while mum and dad cuddled new little Rocco as he lay sound asleep on them.

The jackpot kept on giving as Rocco was such a good sleeper, we were done with family photos in record time and then things hit the brakes a little when Astyn was not having much of the whole modelling gig.  At home he loves to cuddle his new little brother, but on this day we couldnt even bribe him to lay down for a moment.

So we sent him out for more playtime and moved on with the session, capturing some beautiful setups in different neutral colours.

By the time we were towards the end of the shoot, I had a lightbulb moment and we pulled out the bubbles.

Bubbles? For a newborn?

Nope. Bubbles for 2 year old Astyn!

He loved it! He cuddled his new little brother while mum blew bubbles to make him squeal and giggle and just like that we had some beautiful images of the boys together.

Anmay - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Little Anmay will always be a special session for me as he was both a first and a last.

The first session of 2017, and the last session in my home before moving into my new studio space.

As they arrived, Anmay was snuggled into his Dad's chest fast asleep, and he stayed that way right up to when we set up our first photo... and then he cried.

I took him for a snuggle to see if it was something that could be settled without milk, and occasionally he would calm right down and give me the most inquisitive looks and adorable faces, before remembering once more that he really was hungry and that milk would do the trick.

So while he was fed and snuggled and settled we discussed the colours and setups for his session. I was thrown a little when his parents said "Oh, whatever you think?" because it is so rare to have a choice of literally any of my props - I couldn't decide what to do!

We narrowed things down to dark tones, baskets, the blue circular mandala and as always, my light coloured signature setup.

With the session plan in place we were soon underway again with the most beautiful family photos! Anmay wasnt entirely ready for sleep yet but that didn't matter one bit as we were able to enjoy his little smiles and his very alert, interesting looks around the room.

Soon enough, Anmay to settled into his dads solid arms being gently shushed and swayed he soon relaxed again and drifted off into a peaceful rest.

It was about this time that I fell head over heels in love with his lashes. Seriously, they are amaze.

Jordan Sitter Session - Brisbane Baby Photographer

It was a warm and breezy morning as I met some very familiar faces in the carpark of the reserve. Jasmine was the first to bound out of their car, very excited to be back for another photo session.

She had her mums phone and was showing me some photos from her second ever session, back when it was just her and her parents and no little brothers to be seen. She had a flower head band on and she wanted to know if I had brought it today.

Oh how I wished I could have surprised her with it - and I very nearly did as I had brought my headbands, but that particular one was missing! I promised then and there that I would be sure to bring it for their next session in another 6 months time.

While mum and dad organised the boys, I took Jasmine to look in the river for wildlife, and before you could say turtle, she had spotted one!

With everyone sorted we headed off up the path for the first photos and can you even believe that they got their family photo clicked off in the first 3 clicks?! I certainly couldn't!

This session was to celebrate the newest member of the family, 6 month old Jordans baby photos. With Jordan as the centre of attention, Joshua and Jasmine ran off and found some sticks to poke into the holes of trees. Because they are kids.

Jordan enjoyed getting naked in the park (show me a baby who doesnt!) and we captured some very cute photos with all his soft baby skin contrasting against the parklands.

After the sibling photo it all became a bit much for him and he ended up falling asleep as we were photographing with mum. So mum got some of the cutest sleeping cuddle photos you have ever seen.

Jasmine remembered from all our sessions prior that there are treats for good kids at the end of the shoot and today was no exception as I dished out the bubbles and stickers to her and Joshua's delight.

And with that, we had finished another stunning family session from one of the most beautiful and loving families I have had the pleasure of photographing over the years.

Keiran - Brisbane Baby Photographer

Little Keiran was so excited to meet his parents that he surprised everyone by arriving a few weeks early, and so our session took place on what was supposed to be his delivery date!

At 10 days new he was such a sleeper, snuggling into everyone and settling so quickly. Not only did mum and dad come to the session but also his Granny and Grandad who had come from Victoria to meet him.  It was a fun morning with a lot of love and laughter filling the room, everyone giggling away at each other and Keiran always the centre of the joy.

With family photos clicked off we moved on to some of the basket setups. Kierans dad requested a maroon setup and as I didnt have much maroon in my kit I put together a set that was finished off in photoshop, and I think it came up really beautifully!

We managed a lot of variety in the session with some bright photos, some deep coloured photos and of course my signature neutral photos too. I love working with families to create setups that are just what they want, whether its all neutrals or a mix of styles.

Keiran slept almost the whole time he was here, waking right at the end of the session for a bit of a look around and so of course I snapped a few of those smiling, inquisitive looks as well.  I do love photographing babies asleep but when they have eyes this beauitufl its a real treat to capture those soulful looks too.

Keiran was the last newborn booking for 2016 sneaking in just before my annual leave started. Im a bit of a nostaligic person so I always get a bit teary at the end of the year, and when working my way through his beautiful photos you have to agree that we definitely finished on a high note!

Baby Harrison - Brisbane Newborn Photographer

Let me tell you it has been a busy few weeks for this family!

Not only are they juggling the end of year chaos that goes with December, they welcomed their newest family member, the adorable Harrison to the family - and then moved city the week after!

Somehow, they found a spare few hours to come for some family photos and I can't tell you how glad I am that they did.

Green eyes are my favourite and this family came fully loaded - I bet even little Harrison will go green someday soon.

Big sister Mila was not so sure about the camera, a very happy, bubbly girl but apparently every time a camera comes out she shuts down.  Luckily I have a few tactics up my sleeve and we captured so many beautiful photos of her with her family and new new baby brother.

When she had her turn for snuggles she was all soul, staring right at me as though she were afraid to move, but when she got to give him kisses she grinned from ear to ear and snuggled him with delight.

Harrison wasnt too sure about some of the snuggly, curly poses I was putting him into, and he kept an eye and an ear on our goings-ons the whole morning, not once drifting off into that deep dozy sleep that makes things very easy for a baby photographer.

Nonetheless, we worked out our differences and captured so many beautiful images including some of him looking around wide eyed and interested. These are always such striking images, where you can really see a little personality start to come through.

Such a lovely morning with a truly beautiful family.

Sunset and Seabreeze - Brisbane Family Photographer

It was a last minute decision for Nan to join the photo session but how amazing it was that she did!

Upon arriving at one of my favourite locations to shoot, we found that a park area that had been fenced off for years was now open and oh my heart - it was just as amazing a location as I had always imagined it would be!

With low hanging trees and soft wavy grass, the sea breeze roaring up in gusts around us in the carpark barely made it into the shelter of the clearing.

Backlight, shade, low hanging trees, this is a photographers heaven - and just add a beautiful family and its magic!

8 year old Lola was so happy dancing around in the sunlight like a butterfly, Nan was collecting shells from the ground and they even brought a new puppy along who loved all the sights, sounds and smells of an afternoon by the beach.

With Nan front and centre for the first part of the session we shuffled family members around her in shifts. I thought she might be getting over all the smiling by the time I was taking her single portraits but then she commented that it had been years since she had a fancy photo taken just of her.  I love her photos, she really sparked up being the centre of attention for a little while.

We left Nan to rest on a park bench and the rest of the group traversed the rock wall to access the beach for some sunset photos with the Brighton Tree.

Everyone was pointing out all the shell fish for Lola, hermit crabs, soldier crabs, puffer fish and there was talk of a baby flathead but I can't tell for sure.

The gusty sea breeze was still having a few last huffs around us and hair and dresses were flying around making it all the more haphazard, chaotic and fun. Every now and then the gusts would take a breath and we would get a moment to capture a settled hair, reflective water photo before it would bluster up again.

The sun was setting behind the park and the sky lighting up around us, Lola kicked a few last splashes of sea water around as we headed back to the carpark.

Beachside Family Session - Brisbane Family Photographer

It was take three to get this session underway!

Ceilidh and Sinead were probably itching to have their photos taken but things just didnt work out as planned. Many times.

After a booking set many weeks prior, were were rained out. Then unfortunately their Dad had an incident involving a bike and a leg (apparently it was not pretty) so when we finally got to our shoot it felt like we knew each other so well already having spent so much time on the phone organising and rescheduling!

It was  a little touch and go in the carpark as when I arrived to the shoot location, the road to the normal carpark was blocked off. A quick scout around the other end of the beach revealed that we could definitely enjoy a beautiful session regardless of the change in plans.

The girls had both had a nice sleep in the car on the way to the shoot so when it was time to head down to the water they woke up and dozily said hellos as we all trekked down to the shoot location.

Their grandparents had also joined us for the day which must have been such a treat for the girls.

We clicked off the first formal portraits of the day and it wasn't long before things got a little crazy. My theory is that when things get crazy, just go with it! Embrace the crazy!

And so we did.

There were shoulder rides, a lot of running around the shallow water, squishing toes into the gloopy sand, little splashes with their feet and hands.

By the time we headed back to the shore the girls dresses were damp with sea water but the girls cheeks were rosy with the joy of salt air and fun!

There was a beautiful bush growing by the side of the carpark so I sat the girls down beside it for some stunning, dreamy flowery photos. Im in love with these ones - just perfect for angelic little girls!

More family photos with their grandparents and then lots of giggling with mum and dad as they were thrown into the air and dipped towards the ground.   It was only when we were trying to get the last few photos of the girls together that things turned to custard. They were not having it. Not one bit.

Luckily I come prepared for situations just as this. So the bubbles came out! Standing together, we did the deal of "smile if you want some bubbles!" and so they did. Oh my gosh the sweetness in these two! Sinead wasn't too keen on cuddling with her big sister Ceilidh, but when there are bubbles and lollipops involved anything is possible.

The stars aligned and the girls captured the most beautiful sister photo, their bond of love and friendship so very radiant. Best friends for life.
